This semester, we continue with our SEE workshop series, focusing specifically on supporting the development of core practical (and academic) skills. Each 90-minute standalone session, while open to all, appeals particularly to faculty seeking to improve their connections with WNMU students—namely, Latinx—and to enhance their teaching toolboxes in pursuit of facilitating greater student success at our Hispanic Serving Institution. All workshops will be delivered in person and via Zoom. No sign up or registration required.

Workshop #6, Building and Transferring College-level Writing Skills

Academic writing can be daunting even for the most seasoned veterans. Nevertheless, effective written communication is fundamental to achievement in college and beyond. This workshop provides a brief introduction to the New Mexico essential skill of communication—i.e., understanding the concepts of audience, purpose, context, and genre and their applications in various media—and highlights resources and practical strategies for supporting students, including non-native speakers of English, in college-level writing across all academic disciplines.

12:00-1:30 p.m. on February 27, 2025, in the Global Resource Center (GRC) ABC Rooms & Zoom Link

Series co-moderated by Roberta Brown and Michael Cook

Open to all Faculty and Staff
