Dr. Magdaleno Manzanarez

Vice President of External Affairs

An internationalist by training, much of Dr. Manzanárez career is in higher education that has focused on several areas of American politics. The subject has always fascinated him, a Mexican by birth. He immigrated to the United States where he earned a baccalaureate degree in international relationships and a master’s degree in political science/public administration from Sonoma State University; and a Ph.D. In political science from Northern Arizona University.

As if American politics wasn’t fascinating enough, Dr. Manzanárez makes sure to spend each week reading from a long list of favorite authors including John Steinbeck. After 15 years of teaching university students, in 2013 he transitioned into the Vice President role here at Western. It’s been a great journey and he is looking forward to this exciting new chapter.
